Spring has sprung and allergy season has come along with it. Sneezing, sniffling, and itchy eyes are common around this time of year. Many students are suffering these symptoms as they attend classes. UM student, Vincent Fasano, shares his troublesome allergy problems with this time of year.
In: “Yeah I’ve been...”
Out: “couple of weeks.”

Like Fasano, many students are coping with these miserable symptoms. These symptoms are not to be mistaken with illness. Simple over the counter medicines are recommended by UM Student Health Services. If these fail to remedy your allergies then a trip to the UM Student Health Services could be beneficial. For Rebel Radio News, I’m Leah Cayson.

Love Packs Receives a Large Donation
Five residents of Oxford, Ms have created a philanthropy group called Love Packs to help less-fortunate children stay fed and full on the weekends. Love Packs has five board members who actively meet the needs of school children that aren’t able to receive much food outside of the free cafeteria meals at school.
All board members and many volunteers meet each Tuesday at 9:00 a.m. to prepare food packs for current week. Each pack includes individually wrapped food items that are easy-to-open and can be eaten at room temperature if needed. Some of the food items include one-serving containers of vegetables, fruit, granola bars, and cereal.
Alyce Krause, a dedicated board member, spends most of her time working with groups in the community, on campus, and random volunteers who are interested in donating food, money, or time. “On October 20, 2010, Sigma Chi Fraternity announced a donation of 5,000 dollars to Love Packs as part of their philanthropy outreach for the community,” said Krause.
Sigma Chi’s whopping donation will greatly increase the number of Love Packs that can be delivered throughout the schools. Over three hundred and twenty-five packs have been distributed and the group is very eager to see what goals that the donation will allow them to accomplish.
Jay Patrick Marlar, an active member of Sigma Chi, speaks proudly of his fraternity and the recent monetary donation they gave to Love Packs. “The money was raised last spring during our annual fundraiser and we sat aside a portion of that for a community-wide organization,” says Marlar.
So far, Love Packs has gotten positive feedback from the community and the three schools they affiliate with. They are helping children have a better school week because they are better taken care of on the weekends. For more information on Sigma Chi’s donation or to get involved with Love Packs as a volunteer or donator, contact Alyce Krause at 662-816-3790.
